Summer Update

NATIONAL REGISTER NOMINATION
At the end of 2021, the Tustin Preservation Conservancy received grant funds administered through the Tustin Community Foundation. A portion of these funds were earmarked to nominate another Tustin property to the National Register of Historic Places. Drawing from a pool of over twenty historic buildings, the board selected their top three. We are preparing a formal letter to the property owner of our first choice and will be approaching them this summer to gauge their interest in being a part of this program. Look for an update in our next newsletter to learn which historic place in Tustin will be our next nomination for the Historic Register.

Also.. let us know if you own an historic property and are interested in having it listed on the National Register, TPC has resources and experience preparing successful applications and would be happy to provide advise on how to assemble a winning nomination package.

BIG PRESERVATION EVENT COMING THIS FALL
The Tustin Preservation Conservancy is organizing an event for Fall of 2022 to highlight and discuss historic places of Tustin and how preservation keeps us connected to our past. We are just beginning to pull this all together so look for more information in our next quarterly newsletter.

WEBINAR

HOME, SAFE, HOME:
SEISMIC SAFETY & REHABILITATING HISTORIC HOMES

A six part series from June 23 to December 20, 2022

Californians know that “The Big One” is always around the corner. If you own a historic home, every small shake may make you think, “Is this place safe?” These webinars are designed for homeowners, to be easily understandable and applicable when it comes to the seismic retrofit of your home.

Together with OHP, a team of architects, engineers, and architectural historians with preservation expertise and a passion for historic homes to guide you on how to upgrade and retrofit your home to protect from a future earthquake - without compromising its historic character.

Case studies explain how it is done and identify programs and incentives useful to planning your own rehabilitation or retrofit project, including the Earthquake Brace + Bolt Program and the California Historic Building Code. That gingerbread trim on your Victorian or plate glass windows in your mid-century house will thank you.
